Surprise everyone this Halloween with these terrifyingly delicious dark chocolate cupcakes, filled with “bloody” jam and topped with a black garlic glaze! Perfect for the occasion, these cupcakes combine the deep flavor of cocoa with the unique umami touch of black garlic.
Ingredients
For the cupcakes
- 150 g wheat flour
- 100 g sugar
- 50 g cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 100 g butter (at room temperature)
- 2 eggs
- 100 ml milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 100 g dark chocolate (chopped)
For the bloody filling
- 100 g red fruit jam (strawberry, raspberry, or cherry)
For the black garlic glaze
- 4 cloves of Amefruits black garlic
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 2-3 tablespoons milk (to adjust consistency)
- A pinch of activated charcoal (optional, for an intense black color)
For the eye decoration
- Edible sugar eyes (can be found in pastry shops)
Prepare the cupcakes:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C and place paper liners in a cupcake tray. In a bowl, beat the butter with the sugar until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
- Sift the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing gently until smooth. Stir in the dark chocolate pieces.
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake molds, filling them 2/3 full. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
Bloody filling:
- Once the cupcakes are cool, make a small hole in the center of each using a knife or a small spoon. Fill the holes with red fruit jam to simulate “blood” and replace the top of the cupcake to cover the filling.
Black garlic glaze:
Mash the black garlic cloves into a smooth paste. In a bowl, mix the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and black garlic. Add the milk gradually until you get the right glaze consistency (not too runny or too thick). If you want a more intense color, add a pinch of activated charcoal.
Decorate the cupcakes:
Cover each cupcake with the black garlic glaze, creating a dark and eerie appearance. For an extra spooky touch, place edible sugar eyes on each cupcake for a fun and scary look. You can also add “blood drops” of jam or small Halloween decorations.
These “bloody” cupcakes will be the hit of your Halloween party, with a unique flavor that combines the sweetness and umami of Amefruits black garlic.
